Here is some information you might want to have if for some reason the library looses power.
BUILDING
POWER FAILURE
Occurring
Monday through Friday
8:00 am. To 5:00 p.m.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EMERGENCY BUILDING COORDINATOR or DESIGNATED BACK-UP
Ø Report power failure to Campus
Safety x7441
Ø If power failure is Campus-wide turn
on emergency radio and listen for instructions. (Radio is in emergency bag.)
Ø Coordinate evacuation process with
Department Managers/Directors
Ø
Report
to Campus Safety any people trapped in the elevator or disabled people who need
assistance evacuating the building.
(Campus Safety evacuates people trapped in the elevators)
Ø
If
directed by Campus Safety to do so, Emergency Building Coordinator (or
designated backup) enlists the help of building staff to assist in the
evacuation of the disabled or direct the disabled to wait in a stairwell for
emergency aid personnel.
Ø
Call
Campus Safety to request a security walk through when all personnel have been
evacuated.
Ø
Notify
Frank Moore if he is off site.
LIBRARY
SERVICES DESK STAFF . . .
AFTER BUILDING IS CLEARED
Ø Shut off power to the automatic door.
Ø Open outside book drop.
Ø Lock entry door to insure patrons do
not enter the building.
Ø Post “Power Failure” signs on each
door (signs are in deposit bag drawer).
Ø Empty cash register and deposit in
safe.
Ø Shut down department equipment, staff
workstations, copiers, Security Monitor, T.V. Monitor, etc. (when possible,
unplug surge protectors or shut off power switch at surge protector).
Ø Lock Circulation Desk drawers, key
safe and copicard files. Switch/Divert
Phone.
Ø Shut off lights at central power
panel.
HELP DESK & DIGITAL DESIGN CENTER
Ø Clear patrons from your area.
Ø Shut down Haley Center & Digital Design Center equipment. *
Ø Shut down personal workstations. *
Ø Turn off Microfilm Reader Printers.
Ø Report to Department Manager/Director
before leaving building.
DEPARTMENT
MANAGERS and DIRECTORS
Ø
Meet
immediately at Circulation Desk to coordinate the evacuation of the building
(one person takes each floor).
Ø Check for people trapped in the
elevator and report information to the Emergency Coordinator (or designated
backup).
Ø Take inventory of your area to insure all
staff in your department, have left the building, the equipment is off, and
your area is secure. *
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES
Ø
Clear
patrons from your area.

Ø Clear patrons from your area.
Ø Unplug equipment and workstations in your
area and secure the area.
Ø Report to the Emergency Building Coordinator
(or designated backup) when
leaving.
