You know lunch is going to be interesting when your "date" points to the exit and says "Ladies first."Thus began lunch with another new staff member, Darren Moore, who is PLU's Computer Purchasing and Services Coordinator. All kidding aside, we both share the same work philosophy. "Our job is to make our boss look good." You can tell by his accent, that Darren does not hail from the Pacific Northwest. He is a former military brat and has lived in many countries. We share the many countries thing in common. Another thing we have in common is that both of our fathers were named Frank Moore. Darren was born in Bath, England while his family is from Liverpool, originally.
He spent the better part of his youth in southwest England in a small town called Warminster, about 15 miles from Stonehenge. A die-hard Liverpool football(that's soccer for some of you) fan, I asked him if he would ever root for Manchester United. Darren quickly explained that that would be akin to asking a Seahawks fan to cheer on the 49ers. Darren is married to Benita, who is a member of the Dakota Native American tribe. They are raising their granddaughter, Mariah, who is 5 years old. When asked how he ended up in the computer business, Darren explained that as a child in the 80's he saw the personal computer boom start and just fell into it. Darren supervizes one staff member and 5 students. When asked what he would like to be doing in 5 years he smiled and said "Maintaing happiness." Welcome aboard, Darren!
