User Services Organizational and Staff Changes

As we announced last fall in the last I&TS Forums, User Services is undertaking several organizational and staffing transitions to more effectively address instructional technology needs of the university. These changes began last week.

Multimedia Services and the Digital Media Center have combined into an Instructional Technologies Team. This unit will provide:

  • training and support for using learning technologies
  • classroom technology deployment and support services, and
  • multimedia production support and recordings for events

Services and Client Routing

  • Any service requests can be routed to the Instructional Technologies Desk (formerly the Multimedia Services Desk) 253-535-7509, serving as the main communication hub for intake of service.
  • The Instructional Technologies Consultation Lab in Library 207 (formerly the Digital Media Center) will provide on-on-one training and consultation on instructional technologies.

Staffing Changes
  • Nick Butler takes on the new role of Instructional Technologies Team Manager. One of his primary roles will be to develop a robust client relationship management process for providing support for faculty and student projects. He continues as a member of the User Services Leaders group.
  • Travis Pagel becomes the Classroom and Event Technologies Team Lead, responsible for deployment, enhancement, and support of classroom technology as well as multimedia support and recordings for University events. He will also serve as a member of the User Services Leaders group.
  • Amy Robbins, as Classroom and Event Technologies Coordinator, expands her role to include technical direction of University events and productions requiring cameras, visuals, and computer displays.
  • Katie Martell began January 9 as Video Producer. Katie will have a primary role in video productions and supportive role in classroom technology support.

Many more details must be worked through for these transitions and changes. But at the end of the transition we hope to be better positioned to enhance our support for the emerging instructional technology needs of the University community.

Director for User Services/Instructional Technologies
