The Importance of Communication

J-Term/Spring Technology Workshops
The Lunch & Learn was born out of an effort to increase internal communication among the diverse groups which make up the I&TS organization. The idea was that through the sharing of food and ideas we could create an environment to foster conversation. You can help us expand the conversation through sharing your ideas through presentations and digital stories. I will highlight some alternative presentation formats and provide links to User Services learning opportunities. Workshops on digital storytelling, presentation software and audience response systems will help you create effective and engaging presentations.

Why should you present? Well it’s simple; communication. We want to share the Why, What and How of what we do. The best way to share these ideas is through story. These stories can be about anything that relates to what you do that you think people will find informative. The more you communicate the more others can understand what you do which allows everyone to see how our groups and services align to better serve our customers.

The slide presentation is most common, but you are not required to stand up infront of an audience. There are lots of ways to share and here are just a few:
  • Digital Storytelling
    • This is the use of computer based tools to tell stories that include multimedia content.
  • Panel Discussing
    • A discussion of a subject of public interest by a group of persons forming a panel, often before an audience.
  • Video Presentation
    • Producing a video that is shown via web or in front of a live audience
If you are interested in presenting we have workshops to help. You can register for these workshop at our I&TS Instruction Website.
